The Olympics - London 2012 Reading Challenge

The 2012 Olympics are being held in London, quite literally as I type this. Having watched the Opening Ceremony I wondered if I could achieve an Olympic Reading Challenge.

There were 204 flags represented at the Opening Ceremony plus the athletes competing under the Olympic Flag.

The challenge commences on 27th July 2012 which was the day of the Opening Ceremony in London and will conclude on 5th August 2016 which is the day of the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janerio Brazil.

Here are the rules:
  1. Read a book featuring each of the Countries participating in London 2012 or
  2. Read a book written by an author representing the Countries participating in London 2012.
  3. Read a general Olympics book or a book about a specific athlete to represent those competing under the Olympic flag
  4. You are allowed 4 wild cards to use as you wish, and the books can be any genre of your choosing.
  5. Leave a comment
with the URL of your review so we can see what you are reading. (If you don't have a blog just leave a comment!) Here are the Countries that competing in London 2012

  1. Oh, Julie, I love a challenge and I love books and reading but I am going to have to pass on this one. All my reading time in the next two weeks is being devoured by the TV as I watch the Olympic coverage.

  2. Likewise Jill, though the challenge is to read all 204 books before the start of the next Olympics in 2016, so you could still take part......

  3. Can we count books we already read?

    1. I am not going to, as the books I have finished this week don't fit with the Countries, but yes I don't see why not!

  5. For once I may have to think twice about a challenge you've presented me with. Would I find a book for each of those. Will give it some thought & as I've read an Aussie book during the Olympics that would be one down and only 203 to go:-)

    1. It is an ambitious challenge, & one that gets the little grey cells working! There is the option of 4 wild card books, to cover the period between London & Rio that can be used for countries that might be hard to cover - could use a general Olympic book, one about the sports represented in the Olympics or a general post bout Olympics or experience. Also a book about one of the athletes.
